Audiobooks can be a game changer when you are chronically ill.  You can find yourself with endless hours to fill where you feel too unwell to do much apart from lie in bed or on the couch.  Much of this time might be spent on your own and I’m sure at least some of that time you need distraction.  The TV and internet are good distractions some of the time.  Other times just being able to listen can be exactly what you need.

Having an Audible membership means every month you get to choose a new audiobook title to add to your collection (which you get to keep forever, even if you cancel your membership).  This means you will always have access to something new to listen to.

You can choose if you have an Australian or US membership (or whichever Audible store your country offers).  The price is fairly similar between countries but the selection of books can vary a little so it is a good idea to do some searching of titles you want and make sure the site you choose has what you want. Some titles are not available in some regions of the world.

Audible Membership is about $15 charged monthly and allows you choose one book a month and reduces all the other audiobook prices by 30%.  If you want to get more than one book that month consider not using a credit for books that cost less than the monthly amount and buy that title upfront.  Then use your credits for the most expensive title.

Annual membership is an option in some Audible stores and you get all 12 credits at once and can use them anytime.  It is cheaper than if you pay the monthly amount for 12 months.

It is easy to cancel membership and when you ask to cancel you will be offered some special deals to entice you to stay based on which reason for cancelling you choose.  You can also pause your membership one time a year for up to three months.  If you do pause, set a calendar reminder for a few days before three months so you can reassess if you want to cancel then or allow the automatic payment to automatically restart.

You can sign into your Audible account on the mobile app on up to 10 mobile devices, up to four computers, and up to three Audible-ready MP3 players.

You might want to share your membership with your partner/best friend/sister.  To do this you would both log into your account with your username and password and both of you are able to use the credits and the credit card to buy other titles.  Have an agreement- whether you take it in turns to choose or if you discuss possible titles and agree on ones you both want.

You can share audible books through Amazon Household between up to two adults and up to four children.

To set up follow these steps:

1. Go to your Manage Your Content and Devices page on the Amazon desktop site.
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Scroll down until you see Households and Family Library.
4. Click on your Accounts Name.
5. Click Turn On Content Sharing.
1. Enter the other sign-in information for the Amazon account you are sharing with.
2. Select Yes, we agree to authorize payment methods, Family Library, services (Prime, Amazon Mom), and manage child profiles.
3. Click Continue.
4. Click Finish.
This will turn on both the Shared Library and your Shared Wallet.
